A never before situation has developed in Indian politics when Left and Congress joined hand in hand to fight Bengal Election. Two of the pole has come together out of compulsion of parliamentary politics.
Bengal ex-chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will co-host with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi at an election rally at Park Circus Maidan in Kolkata on Wednesday, CPIM officially confirmed this. The party’s candidate from Singur and one of the senior leader Rabin Deb will share stage with Mrs.Sonia Gandhi at Sreerampore in Hoogly district tomorrow .
Rivals for years CPIM and the Indian National Congress, who are still arch enemies in Kerala, have joined hands to fight the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal.
The alliance is said to have been powered and formed by the wish of the local leaders of both the formation and initially the Central leaders of the CPIM were little sceptucal about it.
CPIM, had a big time fight to explain the alliance to comrades in Kerala, who are fighting tooth and nail with the Congress.
But initial hick ups are over now, the sharing of stage is a clear message to the public to display the unity among by the senior-most leaders of both parties.
This time, Mr Bhattacharjee — who as the party’s tallest leader in the state is leading the campaign — has admitted that despite the alliance, “there is a big fight ahead”.
Mr Bhattacharjee, 72, who has been ailing for some time, hit the campaign trail for the first time last week since the party’s drubbing in 2011.
The fifth phase of the seven phase assembly elections in Bengal was held today.
