Anurag Thakur elected as President while Ajay Shirke elected Board secretary; following Shashank Manohar’s resignation on May 10, new President election was mandetory
Anurag Thakur was elected the president during its Special General Meeting (SGM) of BCCI on Sunday. Mr. Thakur’s elevation from the secretary’s to the president’s post was just a formality and event of time. Shashank Manohar’s resignation on May 10, a day before he was appointed the International Cricket Council’s independent chairman made BCCI President post vacant.
Ajay Shirke elected Secretary
Return of the Shirke as a BCCI office-bearer happened after three years. He was elected as Board secretary. The former treasurer had resigned from his post in May 2013, rising a deep protest against the manner in which N. Srinivasan’s regime managed the IPL corruption scandal post arrest of Gurunath Meiyappan, a Chennai Super Kings official and Srinivasan’s son-in-law.
