Non Resident Indians are doing well in foreign lands with their skills and knowledge every where they are settled in. NRIs are not only a force for building foreign exchange for India but also they have built the reputation as a peace loving, educated and dedicated skilled human resource.

But it was not so easy and built overnight. It has taken generation after generation with lots of sweat and blood to get respect and love from all.

Dr. Ranen Sarma from UK is one such name who contributed immensely for the society as a whole. Dr. Sarma a renowned Doctor by profession and outright man of art and culture by heart. Dr. Sarma was one of the pioneers from Assam, India to settle in London 4 decade back and establish a legacy for all to follow.

We called him last week to congratulate him for his success and Peoples Telly Bronze Award 2016. He instantly took time out of his busy schedule and talked to us over phone from London.

Sir kindly tells us something about your life and activity at initial days when you started you career?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

It was indeed a pleasure to talk over the phone today. I heard your name in the past few times. I am in UK for the past almost 40 years. I am qualified from Guwahati Medical College Assam in 1970.I started living in UK from 1977.

I have worked in different specialities in the different hospital for GP training and finally settled down as GP in In South London since 1988. I have retired from NHS service on 2014.

What you do now after retirement from NHS?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

Working in London in a busy practice and we deal with simple to complex cases every day. It is one of the best places to work to learn and gain experience. With my knowledge and experience as a GP I thought why not I share my knowledge and experience to people of India. So I made a film called Ahir Bhairav (Songs of the Dawn).

What is that exactly a musical album?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

Not exactly entertainer but knowledge sharing platform.

We brought all the artists from Assam to London for shooting. We had one crore Indian Rupees initial budget. This film received five nominations and Best International Director award in 2008 from USA.

That’s great news that it got so much appreciation from global leaders in the business?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

Yes that’s true.

I took this film to villages, towns for free show with my team not only to see a beautiful film; but also aware them of mental illness. Free of charge & one lakh people have already seen the film, understand about the illness.

What was the initial intention for such a huge project?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

The film is a gift from myside to the people of Assam same as other projects. I have made the ten part TV serial in Assamese and Bengali called JIBONOR/JIBONER; which should benefit  particularly the mothers of India to help them and families to prevent day today crisis of life and make them to make decent human beings.

I am pleased to say that both of the films has received International award from USA.

So all your projects are related your profession and medical awareness only?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

No that’s not the all I also made documentary called London with love.

It would help the people of India how to manage the sufferers in most cost effective and affordable way. The film is Assamese, Hindi and English. I hope with these awareness numerous life would be saved.

I made two music albums of 28 songs and 24 dances and songs video Nazrul geeti and Robindra Songeet in Assamese , all love his songs and Eternally Indian.

Any plan in recent for new musical or any creative works?

Dr. Ranen Sarma :

Recently we have recorded 19 songs of Goalpara Lokogeet and Bongeet  for young generation and to preserve permanently. It will be released in April 2017. I would like to prompted FROM LONDON WITH LOVE AND ALSO JIBONER (Bengali).
