Contribution to help support local education and science programs in Southern California

ATLANTA, Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Porsche Cars North America, Inc., today announced the donation of $250,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson, California. The contribution will be used to support education initiatives, including the organization’s recently launched Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) afterschool program.

Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG and member of the Board of Directors of Porsche Cars North America, presented the donation during the grand opening festivities for the new Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles (PEC LA) on Tuesday evening, November 15.

“On behalf of all of us at Porsche, it is my honor and privilege to extend this donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson,” said Dr. Porsche, grandson of the renowned engineer Professor Ferdinand Porsche and son of the car company’s founder, Ferry Porsche.” A strong command of the sciences has been the basis of our success since the early years as an engineering and design consultancy, and that is why we support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson and their education initiatives.”

For 25 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson have promoted the positive development of children. The organization has 10 sites with locations in Carson, Compton, and South Los Angeles. Since its inception in 1991, the clubs have provided more than 5,000 youth between the ages of six to 18 with access to academic and recreation programs.

“Lifelong learning and training to the highest standards are central tenets at Porsche,” said Klaus Zellmer, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson have a long history of helping children reach their full potential. We are proud to partner with them and help provide young people with the skill sets they need to succeed,” he added.

Our academic programs are designed to be fun and help our members build critical thinking skills, experience new ways to apply knowledge, and engage in creative expression to prepare them for future success,” said Kim Richards, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson. “We are thrilled to have a partner like Porsche Cars North America who is committed to providing opportunities and access to resources not otherwise available to our community’s youth.”

The 53-acre PEC LA features a driver development track with eight educational modules totaling 4.1 miles, changing race car exhibit and a fine-dining restaurant. Guests and corporate groups visiting the new facility can hone their driving skills on courses built to demonstrate the power, responsiveness, and safety of Porsche sports cars.
