Attention shifts to “passionate giants” India after successful culmination of FIFA U-20 World Cup

FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 concluded with Venezuela and England locking horns in the final, both looking to become world champions in the age group for the very first time. Eventually, only one could receive the honour, and it was England who succeeded, courtesy a first half strike from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The next FIFA World Cup will be hosted in India in October later this year. After years of anticipation, India – labelled “passionate giants” of football by FIFA President Gianni Infantino – is now less than four months away from hosting its first FIFA tournament.

“Now that the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea 2017 has had a fantastic culmination, all the attention of the football fans on the planet will shift to India. It will be our duty to deliver the next FIFA World Cup in the calendar, the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017,” said Tournament Director of the Local Organising Committee, Javier Ceppi.

“It is a great moment to be a football fan in the country, as the best youth national teams and players across the world will be coming here in less than 120 days and will show a quality of football that has not been seen in India before. We know that fans have huge expectations because they have picked up a large part of the inventory of tickets we had put up for sale and we are sure that they will not be disappointed by what they will see and experience in each of the venues. The fans will make sure that football takes over India from now until October,” he concluded.

Post the qualifiers that took place across the globe over the last year, all the 24 teams that will participate in FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 have also been decided. They will know their fixtures when the Official Draw takes place on July 7, in Mumbai.
