By mid-2018 most of the gram panchayats of India will be connected via optical fibre under the national optical fibre network programme amounting to around 1.5 lakh Gram panchayats of India by the Centre , the Union Minister for Electronics & IT and Law & Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said today.
‘BharatNet’ program is targeted for 2.5 lakh gram panchayats are to be connected under this programme, around one lakh has already been connected.
Minister showed his Aadhaar Card and explained why this is a must have card.
Prasad further added that the Indian digital economy is expected to reach more than $1 trillion in another 5 years.
Digital economy will rule the financial transactions in all layers and India is now leader in Facebook usage and Digital learning.
Currently, the digital economy, which includes sectors such as fintech, digital payments, communications, cyber-security, electronics, IT and ITeS, is estimated to be about $400 billion.
