State Govt making Purulia, Bankura major hubs of grape cultivation

The Bengal Government is taking up cultivation of grapes in a big way in Purulia and Bankura districts. It is taking the help of the National Research Centre for Grapes (NRCG) to make the state a major hub of grape production.

Experts have found that the soil and the climate condition in these two districts are congenial for large-scale grape cultivation. Taldangra and parts of Chatna in Bankura, and areas adjacent to the Ayodhya Hills and parts of Balarampur in Purulia are being used for the cultivation.

Recently, the State Government’s Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs Department, for the first time, took up an initiative for pomegranate cultivation in Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram districts.
