Perio Utkarsh will commence in Kolkata – 42nd National Conference of Indian Society of Periodontology
Kolkata, 21st November 2017: The City of Joy is going to host 42nd National conference of Indian Society of Periodontology. After 18 years Kolkata is going to host such a huge conference on Periodontology. More than 1500 delegates from both India and overseas are going to participate in this conference. There will be around 160 scientific deliberations, 650 scientific posters and 40 trade stalls ornamenting this Mega event.
“Periodontology is the study of the specialised system of hard and soft tissues (Bones and Gums) that supports our teeth and maintains their position in the jaw. In many ways, the mouth can be seen as a mirror of the general condition of our body. In particular, our periodontal status can often tell us more than simply what is happening locally in our gums. Although periodontitis is always triggered by microbial accumulation on the teeth, diseases affecting the rest of the body, known as systemic diseases, can weaken the supporting structures of the teeth. So this conference will open up new methods of treating dental diseases related to Periodontology,” Dr. TK Paul, Organizing Chairman says.
Also, some serious disorders are known to show themselves in the mouth before they are evident in any other part of the body. Periodontal (gum) disease is a leading cause of tooth loss and may be associated with other chronic diseases, including diabetes and heart disease.
Therefore, it is sometimes the case that a trained Periodontist is the first person to detect the signs of a general disease, such as diabetes or blood disorders, when examining a patient’s mouth. Because of this association with general health and overlap with other medical disciplines, periodontology can rightly be regarded as a ‘holistic’ form of dentistry.
Dr. Abhijit Chakraborty, Organizing secretary said, “Periodontology is witnessing a remarkable and unprecedented growth with regards to knowledge and skills with every passing day. And knowledge and skills are powers which require sharing to be multiplied. It is with this idea that we do continuously need to foster knowledge and master skills for our own growth and that of Periodontology, that the Organising Committee at Kolkata will host the 42nd National Conference of Indian Society of Periodontology with the theme ‘Fostering Knowledge, Mastering Skills” from 24th to 26th of November, 2017 in Science City, Kolkata and JW Marriott Hotel Kolkata.”
Dr. Partha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Parliamentary Affairs, Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal will inaugurate the conference on 24th of November, 2017 at Science City auditorium, Kolkata at 16.00 Hrs.
