Cyclone Titli touched in Odisha near Gopalpur as per IMD today. Very severe cyclone entered the shore early Thursday with surface wind speed of 126 km/hour at Gopalpur in Odisha’s Ganjam district and clocked 56 KM/Hour in Andhra Pradesh.
Approximately 300,000 people from five coastal districts of Odhisa moved to safe location on Wednesday while all local schools, colleges and childcare centres were closed for safety reasons.
Massive destruction of trees, electric poles getting uprooted and damages to village houses reported, officials said that road communication in some places, including Gopalpur and Berhampur, was snapped.
At least five districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda and Jagatsinghpur are receiving heavy rainfall coupled with high speed winds.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked the collectors of Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Kendrapara and Jagtsinghpur districts to go for an immediate evacuation of people in low-lying areas in the coastal belt.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force on alert in vulnerable districts.
