Behala Classical Festival Starts on 9 January to celebrate music for positivity

5 January,2021,Kolkata: Shyam Sundar Company Jewellers presents Behala Classical Festival 9th edition between 9Jan-12Jan at Behala Blind School ground,5:30pm onward.”Shyam Sundar Sarvottam Samman” would be conferred upon veteran tabla exponent Pt Anindyo Chattopadhyay on an inaugural day. The festival has been initiated by Behala Sanskritik Sammilani.

At Behala, in the year of 2012, various top notch Durga Puja organisers and several art, culture and sport enathusiasts, came together to form Behala Sanskritik Sammilani, a social organisation. At the heart of Behala many festivals and social activities were carried out with gusto, but with the exception of a Classical Music Conference. So the members of BSS (sic) decided to host one such mega event on March 2013, following the death of Pandit Ravi Shankar (December, 2012), in his memory. The event was and is called Behala Classical Festival. Since then the Festival has gone from strength to strength, and now the festival which is held in the chilly winter of early January, is one of the major happenings in the Classical Music circuit of not only the city, but also of the country. The festival boasts of the nation’s fine musicians namely, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Parween Sultana, Vidushi Shubha Mudgal, Guru Vikku Vinayakram, Vidushi N. Rajam,Dr L Subramaniam, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt, Pt. Rajan Sajan Mishra, and the list goes on. The festival has also given a huge platform to upcoming young artistes.

This year too, the 9th edition of Behala Classical Festival is about to be held from 9th – 12th January, at Behala Blind School Ground,5:30 PM onward.The four day musical extravaganza shall witness the likes of Pt. Anindo Chattopadhyay, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Venkatesh Kumar, Pt. Kushal Das, Rahul Sharma, Rakesh Chaurasia, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Bickram Ghosh, Pt. Kaivalya Kumar Gurav, Pallab Bandopadhyay, Sanjukta Das, Rupasree Bhattacharya, Partho Sarothi, and many more. As good as 26 odd musicians are all set to participate in this much-awaited concert. This year, “Shyam Sundar Sarvottam Samman” would be conferred upon Pt. Anindo Chattopadhyay, on the opening day of the festival, viz., 9th January, 2021, around 6pm. Artistes like Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, Pandit Birju Maharaj,Kavita Krishnamurthy, Hariharan and many more awarded with the same.

Amidst the pandemic, this Conference is surely music to the ears of not only music folks, but also connoisseurs of the same. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, though our wings have been clipped, Music surely has given us wings to fly, reasons to celebrate, rejoice and relax.
