Protection of Child Rights in India

The Government reviewed the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 in the rise’s light of incidences of child sexual abuse in the country, inter-alia. The POCSO Act, 2012 was amended in 2019 in order to make it more effective in dealing with cases of child sex abuse. It addresses the need for stringent measures to deter child sex abuse in the country on one hand and the menace of relatively new kinds of crimes on the other hand.
In furtherance of the POCSO (Amendment) Act, 2019, the Government notified the POCSO Rules, 2020 for effective implementation of the Act.
This information was given by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
