CAB begins revision of verification policy
The newly constituted Age Verification Cell of the CAB met today and began the exercise for framing a water tight age verification policy.
The meeting was Chaired by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mahadeb Chakraborty in presence of CAB President Avishek Dalmiya, Hony Secretary Snehashis Ganguly and Jt Secretary Debabrata Das.
OSD and EO DC Traffic 2 on special duty Chandi Charan Panda and ASI Munshi Hapizur Rahaman constituted the other members of the commitee.
“We had a very fruitful meeting. We had thorough discussion and deliberation to bring in a much more stringent policy to ensure transparency and accountability. The association would take all possible measures to eradicate harmful practices that bring disrepute to Bengal cricket,” said CAB President Avishek Dalmiya.
“We had meaningful discussions to bring about relevant changes to curb malpractices. The process has begun to make the rules more detailed and foolproof thereby ensuring transparency in the process,” said Hony Secretary Snehashis Ganguly.
Special invitees Former Election Commissioner West Bengal Sushanta Ranjan Upadhyay and Public Prosecutor Tamal Mukherjee were also present and gave their valued opinion. CAB Member Shibabrata Dutta was also present.
As far as the Verification of documents is concerned the association would verify the authenticity of the Aadhar card, voter’s ID Card and passport submitted by the players during registration in first and second division tournaments.
This exercise would commence from middle of April once the ongoing tournaments are completed.
The voters ID and the Aadhar card would be verified from the official websites of the relevant authorities initially and the authorities would be approached for physical verification for all doubtful cases. For passports, the association would approach the regional passport office to workout a similar mechanism.
In addition there was a thorough discussion regarding framing of policy with regards to qualification rules for local players.
It was recommended that Aadhar card should be duly supported either by a domicile certificate or a police verification certificate. In this context there would again be a follow-up meeting next week to take the matter forward.
For the record, in order to obtain a legally binding domicile certificate one has to submit Aadhar Card, proof of age (birth certificate/10th school certificate); proof of residence (Photo copy of land deed/rent receipt) and Identity certificate (pan card, ration card) etc.
Such domicile certificates are issued by the government authorities and is used as a proof of being a local resident. The CAB would facilitate the players at the time of application for domicile certificates.
Once a finality is reached in this matter, the cell would send it’s recommendations to the association so that the same may be placed before the Apex Council and taken up with various stakeholders as relevant changes will also be made in the tournament bylaws to incorporate the same.
