City Girl Vaijayantee Bhattacharya Launches her Maiden Book of Poems, “Mosaic Vision”

Returning to Kolkata, after almost a decade, Writer, Editor, Journalist and Poet, Vaijayantee Bhattacharya’s joys knew no bounds. Having ventured in the field of publishing her maiden poetry book; and releasing it in the City of Joy- the city she grew up in, the city which nurtured her, the city which played a pivotal role in shaping up her personality- Vaijayantee was all smiles during the Grand Launch of the book.

Mosaic Vision, her anthology of poems was released at the Oxford Bookstore Kolkata recently. The formal book launch was preceded by a press meet, arranged especially for the media to interact with her.

During the press meet which was organized by PR and Events Manager Sufia Khatoon, Vaijayantee openly confronted the questions asked by the media. It included questions like why she choose poetry to be her medium of communication to the audience and readers alike; how she dealt with criticisms; what was the role of reaching out to her audience via social media platforms; her favourite poets and authors; her inspirations.

As a child she was greatly influenced by her parents since both were lovers of literature, she inherited this passion from a very young age. Those apart, works of Rabindranath Tagore, William Shakespeare and others had a great influence on her.

Mosaic Vision is a culmination of thoughts and reactions of a contemporary woman on her surroundings in the form of thirty-seven poems. It has poems which have been written over a period of fourteen years in different destinations- Kolkata, Delhi and Bahrain. Having experienced the life and culture of three very unique places of the world, Vaijayantee puts her wisdom, her thoughts, her understandings and her opinions about various things in life in her maiden publication. What would interest the readers in her book is the fact that there is a poem for every mood that an individual experiences in his/her life – happiness, sadness, melancholic, contemplative, anger, curiosity and the like. This makes the array of published poems special for most readers. In fact, the theme is beautifully portrayed through simplicity of thoughts and language and mostly based on everyday observations. Before ending the press meet, Vaijayantee read out two of her beautiful poems to give a glimpse to the audience of what was in store for them in the book.

The press meet was followed by the official launch of the book by Chief Guest Shri Jawhar Sircar along with other eminent guest panelists namely Dr Sanjukta Dasgupta (Professor, Department of English, University of Calcutta), Mr Shahenshah Mirza, a Social and Environmental Activist and (descendant of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah), Ms Saira Shah Halim (Educator, Activist and Poet), Ms Saheli Mitra (Journalist, Author, Poet and Columnist) and Vaijayantee herself.

A short documentary on the journey, passion of poetry and the life of Vaijayantee was also screened.  It was indeed a special moment to be able to unveil a Poet and Author’s passion of writing in front of her parents, friends, family and the media. This was followed by a panel discussion on the lines of ‘Is poetry a reflection of emotions recollected in tranquillity or disturbance? What is its relevance in today’s morbid world of prosaic reality?’ The panel discussion ended on a high note with great expectations from the book. It was followed by photo sessions and book signing session with the Poet.
