Number of hospital beds in Bengal increased by 35% in six years
The Bengal government has increased the total number of beds by 35 percent in the state-run hospitals. Minister of State (MoS), Department of Health and Family Welfare Chandrima Bhattacharya on Friday said that the government has achieved this in last six years under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“We have increased the total number of the beds by 35 percent in government hospitals from 2011 to 2017. Presently, the total number of beds in the hospitals is 1.04 Lakh,” Bhattacharya said while she was addressing a crowd at the Nursing Conclave 2017 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The minister said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has increased the planned budget of the department by over 200 per cent. “The planned budget of Department of Health and Family Welfare was 872 crore in 2011-12. But our Chief Minister, who is also the Health minister, has increased the planned budget to Rs 3,299 crore, which is an increase by 200 per cent,” she added.
The minister said that the state government has recruited 41,645 people in the medical service including 2,400 doctors. She added that the patients get free of cost treatment and diagnostic tests in the government-run hospitals. The government has also started fare price medicine shops in the hospitals.
She further said that the government has set up five new health districts and three new medical colleges. Four private medical colleges and nine new nursing training institutes will also be set up soon in the state.

মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের নেতৃত্বে ছয় বছরে রাজ্য সরকার পরিচালিত হাসপাতালগুলিতে বেড সংখ্যা বেড়েছে ৩৫ শতাংশ। স্বাস্থ্য দপ্তর ও পরিবার কল্যাণ দপ্তরের রাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী চন্দ্রিমা ভট্টাচার্য এই তথ্য দেন।
কনফেডারেশন অফ ইন্ডিয়ান ইন্ডাস্ট্রি আয়োজিত নার্সিং কনক্লেভ ২০১৭র সভায় চন্দ্রিমা ভট্টাচার্য বলেন, “২০১১ সাল থেকে ২০১৭ সালের মধ্যে সরকারি হাসপাতালের মোট বেড সংখ্যা বেড়েছে ৩৫ শতাংশ। এই মুহূর্তে রাজ্য সরকার পরিচালিত হাসপাতালে বেডের সংখ্যা ১.০৪লক্ষ।”
মন্ত্রী বলেন, মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় স্বাস্থ্য দপ্তর ও পরিবার কল্যাণ দপ্তরের বাজেটে পরিকল্পিত ব্যায় বাড়িয়েছেণ ২০০ শতাংশ। ওই দপ্তরের পরিকল্পিত বাজেট ২০১১-১২ সালে ছিল ৮৭২ কোটি টাকা। মুখ্যমন্ত্রী যিনি রাজ্যের স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রীও, ওই দপ্তরে পরিকল্পিত বাজেট বাড়িয়ে করেছেন ৩২৯৯ কোটি টাকা।
মন্ত্রী বলেন, রাজ্য সরকার স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবায় নিয়োগ করেছেন ৪১,৬৪৫ জনকে, যার মধ্যে ২৪০০ জন ডাক্তার। তিনি আরও বলেন, রাজ্য সরকার পরিচালিত হাসপাতালগুলোয় বিনামুল্যে চিকিৎসার পাশাপাশি রোগ নির্ধারণও হয় বিনামুল্যে। রাজ্য সরকার ন্যায্য মূল্যের ওষুধের দোকানও খুলেছে।
তিনি বলেন, রাজ্য সরকার পাঁচটি নতুন ‘স্বাস্থ্য জেলা’, তিনটি নতুন মেডিক্যাল কলেজ গঠন করেছে। চারটি বেসরকারি মেডিক্যাল কলেজ ও ন’টি নার্সিং হোম ইন্সটিটিউটও খুব শীঘ্রই তৈরি করা হবে রাজ্যে।
