JFA insists on comprehensive health insurance scheme for scribes

Guwahati:  Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) expresses worries over the serious health conditions of two young scribes undergoing treatments in the city based hospitals and wishes their early recoveries. The forum also appeals to the government to immediately launch a comprehensive health insurance scheme for the benefit of all working journalists of the State.

It may be noted that Gautam Hazarika from DY365 news channel is presently admitted at GNRC Six-mile campus after a brain stroke on the night of last Monday. On the other hand, Kushal Lahan from Amar Asom newspaper faced an accident in Meghalaya on 15 August and currently admitted at Apollo Hospital Guwahati.

The JFA also urged the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to sanction necessary funds for the treatment of both Gautam and Kushal, besides requesting other media welfare organisations to contribute for the two ailing journalists’ treatment.

“We also request the owners/managements of various newspapers and news channels of the State to  extend supports in realizing the contributory health insurance scheme for scribes at the earliest,” said a statement issued by JFA president Rupam Barua.
