NASA Women ‘Introduce a Girl to Engineering’ Event set for Thursday

WASHINGTON, Feb. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Some of NASA’s best and brightest female scientists and technical experts will celebrate “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” by connecting with thousands of students throughout the U.S. and elsewhere on Thursday, Feb. 23.

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida will provide classrooms with live access to women leaders from around the agency on Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day-long event will be presented in 30-minute time slots. The agency scientists will be connecting with students throughout the country via NASA’s Digital Learning Network (DLN).

NASA “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” is one of many events highlighting National Engineers Week, Feb. 19-25, and coincides with the worldwide celebration on Thursday of “Girl Day.”

NASA is doing a number of activities in conjuncture with National Engineer Week. This includes NASA Stennis Space Center hosting a virtual National Engineers Week STEM Fair and Speakers Bureau from Feb. 20 – 23. Jody Singer, deputy director of Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, will speak at the Chattanooga Engineer’s Award banquet in celebration of National Engineer Week. Red Stone Magazine is featuring two NASA engineers in this week’s edition to promote engineering to students. On Tuesday, Stennis participated in the “Big Dream” STEM event hosted by the University of New Orleans for middle and high school student.
