Some elements you can not change in the name of development because that takes out the aura of the whole institution. Some times a man becomes larger than life just because of his presence in some service.
Dhaka University had a canteen named “Modhur” or Modhu Da’s Canteen. Coffee House of College street and Pramod Sain of Presidency. Ask any Ex Presidency fame for last 47 years they admired, fight and the lived with Pramod Sain, none can ignore beloved Pramod Da.
On 15th January 2017 Mr.Pramod Sain was given a ceremonial ride on a phaeton from Swami Vivekananda’s residence to Presidency University with royal treatment. The slow motion move of the car reminded every one about the association of Pramod Sain and Presidency Canteen, trailing a crowd of alumni of the famous institution walking the 1.5 km stretch. The occasion was the bicentenary celebration of Presidency College, the first modern college of the country under British Rule.
But destiny was smiling with a twist in future on 4th July 2017, suddenly Pramod da found himself on the pavement in front of Presidency University, evicted from the institution by the authorities who wanted to transform his canteen, a centre for brainstorming by generations of Bengali intellectuals, into a food court. Business class will prevail and the intellectual thought will have to find a different Pramod Da like comfort else where.
“l went to meet my wife and daughter in Cuttack. when I returned on July 4, I was not allowed to enter the canteen. I was asked to collect my belongings and leave,” the 60-year-old man alleged.
Some of the Ex-Presidency fames are trying to help Pramod Da to get the order through the tender but very few also see a master plan behind his eviction with order from most influential corner of the Bengal.
