Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind organized by Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata

To celebrate World Creativity & Innovation Day, the Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (AEIE), Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (HITK) organized an Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind on 25th April at The Heritage campus.

The inaugural session of the competition was addressed by Mr. Nirjhar Chakravorti, GM, Johnson Controls as the Chief Guest and Dr. Tapas Chakravarty, Principal Scientist, TCS Research, Kolkata, as the Guest of Honour.

Mr. P.K.Agarwal, CEO, of Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata, and Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Principal, of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, also addressed the inaugural session.

The event witnessed the participation of various engineering colleges across the city like Heritage Institute of Technology, Techno Main, Future Institute of Engineering and Management, University of Calcutta, The Neotia University, Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, Asansol Engineering College, RCC Institute of Information Technology and many more. Nearly 65 projects were received by the Institute and out of them 45 projects were selected and were invited for display.

The engineering students showcased their projects on Smart Glass, Rain Detecting System, Jacket for the Military, Smart Home Automation System, Cash for Bottles, Smart Waste Management System, Smart Washing Machine, Third Eye for blind people, Fire Detecting System, Diabetic Foot Ulceration Detection and many more.

The concluding ceremony of the event witnessed a talk by Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal, CEO, of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, followed by the Award ceremony to recognize the winners and the runners-up teams. Heritage Institute of Technology secured the first position for their project on Smart Washing Machines, Bengal Institute of Technology secured the second position for their project on Sign language recognition ( progressive web app ) for specially-abled people and RCC Institute of Information Technology secured the third position for their project on Diabetic foot ulceration detection using FSR. Apart from this, 5 consolation prizes were given to Asansol Engineering College for their project on Aadhar based voting system, Future Institute of Engineering and Management for their Drone Management system, and third and fourth consolation prizes were bagged by Heritage Institute of Technology for their projects on IOT based clean smart grid system and Finstrack respectively.

“This is for the 6th time we are organizing such an event under our Department of AEIE, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. We have provided a platform for the young techies who have done some brilliant works which help mankind and improve the lifestyle of the people. Such affordable solutions to various problems faced by people show our Country is rich in talent and can be a hub of innovation in the future. Already India is now a part of G20 and such a phenomenal achievement of our Country is cherished by our Institute as well while spreading knowledge to our students,” said Prof. Madhurima Chattopadhyay, Head of the Department, Department of AEIE, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata.
