Scrap disposal & disposal of worn-out materials is very important for efficient operation vis-à-vis improving the aesthetics of the work environment. Under the able guidance of Shri Amar Prakash Dwivedi, General Manager, Eastern Railway, surpassing the sale of scrap amounting to ₹258.97 crore up to 15 December 2022 in the previous fiscal, this year’s cumulative scrap sale figure of Eastern Railway recorded as ₹275.55 crore up to 15.12.2023 marking a 6.4% growth in scrap sale amount, thus maintaining a continuous upward trend.
It may be noted that Eastern Railway has ranked second among the Zonal Railways in terms of percentage variation of increase of scrap sale with respect to proportionate target till 15.12.2023.
The basic objective of selling Railway scrap is to earn revenue by selling unutilized/non-performing assets and wastages generated from different manufacturing and maintenance activities and to clear the valuable space occupied by this unwanted waste. The scrap sale also helps to keep Railway premises clear from piles of unusable materials and thus augmenting ‘Swachhta’ (Cleanliness) at Railway stations & offices.
