As a security measure Amarnath Yatra has been suspended in view of tension due to killing of Jammu and Kashmir’s most wanted terror person Burhan Wani by the forces.
“No yatri was allowed to move from Bhagawati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city towards the valley due to prevailing tension following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani,” a senior police official told IANS in Jammu.
“The situation will be reviewed later. Till then the Amarnath Yatra shall remain suspended.”
Authorities also imposed mobile internet restriction in the entire district of Pulwama and in the towns of Ananatnag, Shopian, Pulgam and Sopore, officials said here to stop the rumors spreading across.
In Srinagar, restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under seven police stations which include Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal, Maisuma, Kralkhud. All educational and board exams activities scheduled for the day have been postponed.
Railway services to Kashmir valley, from Baramulla in Kashmir region to Banihal town in Jammu have also been suspended.
Wani, along with two terror associates, were killed in encounter on Friday.
Other terrorist and supporters of Wani along with the radical chief of women’s separatist outfit, have called for a valley-wide bandh to protest Wani’s killing.
