Bengal CM pays tribute to noted journalists
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid tributes to the memories of esteemed journalists today near Bartaman Bhawan on EM Bypass at 5 PM. The programme was a joint initiative of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the State Housing and North Bengal Development Departments.
She paid tribute to noted journalists Suhas Chandra Talukdar, Gour Kishore Ghosh, Barun Sengupta, Amitabha Chowdhury and Manturam Chowdhury.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stones of the projects to build a community hall and build or rename a road each after the four journalists.
The salient points of the Chief Minister’s speech:
- Amitabha Chowdhury has worked for various newspapers like Aajkal, and has also written poems.
- I have inaugurated Amitabha Chowdhury Community Hall, named after him.
- The road from Moore Avenue to Madhuban Cinema has been re-named Amitabha Chowdhury Sarani.
- Suhas Chandra Talukdar is the founder of the well-known Uttar Banga Sangbad, published from Siliguri.
- We are building a community to be named after him, in Jalpaiguri.
- We are naming the road being built from Champasari More to Gulmar Railway Station after Suhas Talukdar.
- Manturam Chowdhury is the founder of the Hindi newspaper, Bharat Darpan and the Nepali newspaper, Himalaya Darpan.
- Two projects are being named after him – Matigala Community Hall in Siliguri & part of the Canal Road in Jalpaiguri.
- On June 19, I am leaving for the UN programme, so we are commemorating Barun Sengupta’s death anniversary today.
- I am grateful that everyone from the world of journalists is attending this programme.
- Journalists risk their lives for their work, to set the highest standards for their profession.
- A single piece of news can make a Government fall.
- News items broadcast what all is happening all over the world.
- I respected Barun da like my elder brother.
- We could never do without reading reading Barun da’s columns every Thursday.
- He loved and respected our struggle.
- I had appointed people’s poet Subhash Mukherjee, chairman & Pradyut Dutta, secretary of 21st July Benevolent Committee.
- I had learnt from Barun da about helping people.
- Without Barun da, Mamata Banerjee wouldn’t have reached this level.
- We have had untimely losses of such valuable people.
- Amitabha da was the only one I could honour with Banga Bibhushan.
- I consider journalists like my own people.
- Like the police are getting beaten up in order to maintain peace, the journalists are too.
- I had information at 9 am that journalists had been kidnapped.
- Kidnapped journalists are being used to blackmail channels into showing whatever that want.
- If someone tries to scare me with a gun, the person may not realise that I have it in me to snatch away the gun.
- Some people in the Hills are trying to break up Bengal.
- It is a deep-rooted conspiracy, else so much arms would not have been accumulated.
- Keep in mind, despite all this, we will bring back peace in the Hills.
- We will take all actions necessary to be taken against hooligans.
- I am ready to give my life won’t allow Bengal to be broken up.
- I will never do politics by reneging on the belief people have placed on me.
- We are honoured to have been able to show respect to to all.
- Keep coming back to Bengal, we will welcome you with open arms.
বিশিষ্ট সাংবাদিকদের স্মরণে শ্রদ্ধাজ্ঞাপন করলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী
কলকাতা পৌরসংস্থা, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের আবাসন দপ্তর ও উত্তরবঙ্গ উন্নয়ন দপ্তরের মিলিত উদ্যোগে আজ এক বর্ণাঢ্য স্মরণ সভা আয়োজিত হল বর্তমান ভবনের সন্নিকটে। উক্ত অনুষ্ঠানে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় মরণোত্তর শ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করলেন বাংলার কিছু প্রবাদপ্রতিম সাংবাদিকদের।
এই বিশিষ্ট সাংবাদিকরা হলেন, বরুণ সেনগুপ্ত, অমিতাভ চৌধুরী, গৌরকিশোর ঘোষ, মন্টুরাম চৌধুরী ও সুহাস চন্দ্র তালুকদার। অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয় বিকেল ৫টায়।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর পাশাপাশি শ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করেন সাংবাদিক শুভা দত্ত এবং কলকাতার মহানাগরিক শোভন চ্যাটার্জী।
এই অনুষ্ঠান থেকে সূচনা করা হয় বরুণ সেনগুপ্ত মিউজিয়াম ও সরণির, গৌরকিশোর ঘোষ স্কোয়ার, অমিতাভ চৌধুরী কমিউনিটি হল ও সরণি, সুহাস চন্দ্র তালুকদার কমিউনিটি হল ও সরণি ও মন্টুরাম চৌধুরী কমিউনিটি হল ও সরণি।

- তাঁর নামে জলপাইগুড়িতে একটি কমিউনিটি হল তৈরি করছি
- চম্পাসারি মোড় থেকে গুল্মার রেলওয়ে স্টেশন পর্যন্ত নির্মীয়মাণ রাস্তাটি সুহাস তালুকদার সরণি হিসেবে করছি
- হিন্দি দৈনিক সংবাদপত্র ভারত দর্পণ ও নেপালি দৈনিক সংবাদপত্র হিমালয় দর্পণের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা মন্টুরাম চৌধুরী

- সকাল ৯টা থেকে ইনফরমেশন পেয়েছি সাংবাদিকদের কিডন্যাপ করা হয়েছে, আটকে রেখে দেওয়া হয়েছে
- সাংবাদিকদের ব্ল্যাকমেলিং করে বলা হচ্ছে আটকে রেখেছি, যা বলব, তাই দেখা
- আমায় যদি কেউ বলে তোমাকে বন্দুক দিয়ে চমকাচ্ছি, ওরা জানে না বন্দুকটা কেড়ে নেওয়ার ক্ষমতা আমি রাখি
- পাহাড়েও কেউ কেউ চাইছে বাংলাটাকে ভাগ করবার
- It is a deep-rooted conspiracy, conspiracy ছাড়া কিছুতেই এত arms জোগাড় করতে পারে না
- মনে রাখবেন, তা সত্ত্বেও পাহাড়ের শান্তি আমরা ফিরিয়ে আনব
- Hooligans দের বিরুদ্ধে যা যা action নেওয়ার প্রত্যেকটা আমরা নেব
- আমি নিজের জীবন দিতে রাজি আছি, বাংলাকে ভাগ হতে দেব না
- মানুষের সঙ্গে বিস্বাসঘাতকতা, প্রতারনা করে কোনোদিন রাজনীতি করব না
- সবাইকে এইটুকু সম্মান জানাতে পেরে আমরা কৃতজ্ঞ
- বারবার করে ফিরে আসুন এই বাংলায়, বাংলা আপনাদের জন্য অপেক্ষা করবে
