CBI has become ‘Conspiracy Bureau of Investigation’: Mamata Banerjee
Today, during the inauguration of Mati Utsav in Bardhaman, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once again lashed out at the Centre’s decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes last November. The decision has brought untold miseries upon the people.
“Farmers are suffering due to demonetisation. Daily wagers are starving”, said the Chief Minister. She pointed out to the futility of asking people to deposit the demonetised currencies into their bank accounts and exchange them with new ones, since “92% of the rural areas do not have banks or post offices”.
She then tore into the Central Government’s argument of striving for a cashless society and paying through cards.
“The Centre talks of a cashless society while the people cannot even withdraw their own money from banks” because “40% of the banks do not have money”. “They are talking of cashless India. But people have become ‘cash less’”; so “will people eat plastic money?”
Mamata Banerjee said, “Two months of Modi’s ‘note bandi’ has spelt doom for the people. Bengal has lost revenue worth Rs 5,500 crore in two months”.
On the failed promise of the Prime Minister to bring back black money stashed in foreign accounts, she said, “Modi has failed to bring back black money from abroad. Who gave the Centre the right to take away people’s white money?”
She said, “The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has instead become ‘Conspiracy Bureau of Investigation’”.
“The current situation”, the Chief Minister said, “is worse than the Emergency. The economy has been bulldozed. Markets are on a downward spiral. This is a signal of bad times”.
During these times of dire straits, she said, “it is our responsibility to stand by the people and lend a voice to their problems,” at the same time, daring the Centre to “arrest” her for taking the side of the common people and protesting.

আজ বর্ধমানে মাটি উৎসবের সূচনা করতে গিয়ে বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় আরও একবার নোট বাতিল ইস্যুতে কেন্দ্রের বিরুদ্ধে তোপ দাগেন।
তিনি বলেন, “নোট বাতিলের ফলে চাষিরা সমস্যার সম্মুখীন, ক্ষেত-মজুররা খেতে পাচ্ছেন না। যে দেশের ৯২ শতাংশ গ্রামে ব্যাঙ্ক বা পোস্ট অফিস নেই”।
“কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার ক্যাশলেস অর্থনীতির কথা বলছে অথচ সাধারন মানুষ নিজের টাকাই ব্যাঙ্ক থেকে তুলতে পারছে না। কারন ৪০ শতাংশ বাঙ্কে টাকা নেই। মানুষ নিঃস্ব হয়ে পড়েছে। তাহলে মানুষ কি প্লাস্টিক মানি খাবে?” তিনি প্রশ্ন করেন।
মুখ্যমন্ত্রী আরও বলেন, “মোদীর নোটবন্দির ২ মাস আর জনগনের সর্বনাশ, ২৫ শতাংশ রাজস্ব কমে গেছে। ২ মাসে রাজ্যে ৫৫০০ কোটি টাকার রাজস্ব ক্ষতি হয়েছে”।
সিবিআই এখন “কন্সপিরেসি ব্যুরো অফ ইনভেস্টিগেশনে’ পরিণত হয়েছে বলেও কটাক্ষ করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী। তাঁর কথায় “দেশের অবস্থা জরুরির থেকেও খারাপ, দেশের অর্থনীতির মেরুদণ্ড ভেঙ্গে দেওয়া হয়েছে, বাজার এখন নিম্নমুখী, খুব খারাপ সময়ের দিকে এগোচ্ছি আমরা।”
সবশেষে তিনি বলেন, “বিপদের সময় সাধারন মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়ানো ও তাদের কষ্টের কথা তুলে ধরা এটা আমাদের কর্তব্য, সাধারন মানুষের পাশে থাকার জন্য ও তাদের হয়ে প্রতিবাদ করার জন্য কেন্দ্রীয় সরকার ইচ্ছে হলে তাঁকে গ্রেফতারও করতে পারে”।
