Kolkata, 23rd February 2018 : The Cyber Security Education Foundation presented the Cyber Security Summit, held at Techno India Campus on 23rd February 2018. This conference aimed to educate and broaden horizons with respect to the field of cyber security, and its various branches. Some of the esteemed speakers at this conference included Shri Debasish Sen (IT Secretary, Govt. of WB), Smt. Manoshi RoyChowdhury (Co Chairperson, Techno India Group), M. Moshe (CEO, IMI Academy Israel), Col. Inderjit Singh (CIO, BCL), and many more.

CSEF, India’s only foundation on Cyber Security Education, ISMS audit compliance education and knowledge exchange, provided a platform to discuss cutting-edge cyber security solutions that are comprehensive, pragmatic and effective. This two-day conference laid emphasis on the importance of cyber security education to enhance students, corporations and common people alike. It also touched upon how cyber security can provide employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, and how we can follow a few simple steps to attain online safety and mobile security.

As a way to give back to the society, the CSEF has developed a program that aims at using cyber resources to provide security to the geriatric population. It is a large-scale project that enlists the support of corporate houses, software developers and start-ups, alongside public welfare institutions such as the administration, healthcare and civil society.  The idea is to utilize the resources at hand to improve the safety and security quotient of the senior citizens. It will start at the city level, and branch out further in time to provide these services across the country. As Smt. Manoshi RoyChowdhury (Co Chairperson, Techno India Group) said, it is important to assist and ensure the cyber safety of senior citizens, as they have very minimal idea about technological gadgets and the level of cyber security required to protect their confidential information.

It is estimated that 1 out of every 50 e-transactions is prone to a cyber attack, in India, thus showing how much our online bank transactions and details are susceptible to cyber crime. As Shri Debashish Sen pointed out, ‘ The magnitude of this problem is so large, that the demand for skill power to deal with this problem is also going to be huge, but there is a massive shortage of the available skill-set. So, it is necessary to encourage the study of cyber security and pave the path for the entry of this skill-set into government departments, public sector units, private sector units, and also throughout the world.

Shri Debashish Sen also touched upon the importance of Artificial Intelligence, in ensuring the efficiency and maintenance of cyber security. He emphasized that if we really want to make a mark in a global scale, we should master the area of Artifical Intelligence technology.

WB Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once said that ‘We should have courses on cyber crime in higher education institutes so that the graduates can enter employment in the cyber crime police force.’ Therefore, we can understand that the threat of cyber security is eminent in the police and army forces, and there is not enough trained work force to fill that requirement. So, it is wise to be educated on cyber security, and it is important for institutes to start offering formal educational courses on cyber security. On this note, Techno India University is initiating a formal educational course on cyber crime, to ensure the education and placement of students in the cyber security field.
