Kolkata, August 10, 2016: Starmark, in association with Bee Books, hosted the launch of Eye of the Eagle, the English translation of Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay’s Eagler Chokh at Starmark’s South City Mall outlet. The book was launched in the presence of Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Ranjan Badyopadhyay, Arindam Sil, Saswata Chatterjee, Padmanabha Dasgupta, and Ushoshi Sengupta. An interactive session followed the launch.
Translated by Uttara Gangopadhyay Eye of the Eagle belongs to the popular detective series featuring the fictional detective character Shabor Dasgupta. A murder mystery, it delves into the complicated world of human relationships. The story revolves around four characters, Bishan, his wife Shivangi, and her two friends Nandini and Jahnavi. Nandini is brutally murdered and Bishan’s wife, Shivangi, is found lying in the bathroom with fatal injuries. All evidences point towards Bishan! But is he the murderer? Here, Shabor Dasgupta steps in to unravel the murder mystery with his sharp detective’s eye. He is a ‘…honest sleuth with special abilities…he is a human without human weaknesses’ states Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay, the creator of Shabor.
The publication of Eye of the Eagle coincides with the launch of Arindam Sil’s about to be released film Eagler Chokh.
About Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay:
Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay was born in Mymensingh, Bangladesh on 2nd November, 1935. His childhood days were spent at various places as his father’s job with the Indian Railways, took him to Bihar, Bengal and Assam. His childhood experiences have found their way into many of his writings. He started his career as a school teacher, and then joined the literary section of a leading publishing house. His first literary work, a short story, was published in 1958. He has received many awards—the Vidyasagar Award (1985), the Ananda Puraskar (1973 and 1990), and the Sahitya Akademi Award ( 1989). Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay writes for both children and adults, and is one of the most prominent contemporary Bengali litterateurs.
