Garfa Mitrayan presents its 100th stage enactment of Rabindranath Tagore’s dance drama ‘Chandalika’ to celebrate the completion of 10 years of this production.
Kolkata, June 1, 2018: Garfa Mitrayan presented their 100th stage enactment of Rabindranath Tagore’s dance drama ‘Chandalita’ at the Gyan Manch here today. This also marked the completion of 10 years of this production which has been presented not only in Bengali, but also in Hindi, all over India and also outside.
At this presentation of ‘Chandalike’, the distinguished guests were Janab Kamrul Islam, General Secretary, Bengal Council for Literature and Culture, Bangladesh, Prof. Shafiqunnabee Samadi, ex-Head, Dept. of Bangla, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh and Mr. Justice Soumen Sen, Judge, Kolkata High Court.

Choreographed with the use of different styles, including those of Gaudiya Nritya and various folk dances of Bengal, ‘Chandalika’ has been presented by Garfa Mitrayan not only in Bengali, but also in Hindi all over India, as well as in Moscow. These presentations have been highly acclaimed by lovers of dance dramas and the communication media everywhere.
Garfa Mitrayan is a Kolkata-based organisation endeavouring for the upliftment and spread of Indian cultural traditions, mainly in the areas of classical and folk dance forms of Bengal, many of which are on the verge of extinction. It not only trains its students in Gaudiya Nritya and folk dances of Bengal, but also prepares them to conduct extensive research on various aspects of Bengal’s culture. Many of its students and members have received not only national scholarships and fellowships from the Government of India, but also prestigious awards for their proficiency in dance and research work.
Conceived and directed by Banani Chakraborty, the presentation of ‘Chandalika’ has Satabdi Acharyya as the assistant dance director, Amitabha Mukherjee as the music director, Subhadip Chakraborty as the creative director, and Ayan Mukherjee and Subhadip Chakraborty as the assistant music directors.
