Karate Association of Bengal hosts the “Kai Senior National Karate Championship 2018”

Kolkata, 14th January 2018: The “Kai Senior National Karate Championship 2018” organized by Karate Association of India and hosted by Karate association of Bengal witnessed  the presence of Shri Arup Roy, Hon’ble Minister of Co – Operation, Govt. of West Bengal; Shri Rajeev Kumar, Police Commissioner of Kolkata ; Mr. Mitsuo Kawaguchi, Consul-General of Japan, Kolkata; Mr. Haider Aziz Safwi, Deputy Speaker of West Bengal, Vidhan Sabha along with Mr. Shihan Karate R. Thiagrajan, President Karate Association of India; Mr. Shihan Bharat Sharma, General Secretary of Karate Association of India; Mr. Ajit Banerjee, President Bengal Olympic Association and Mr. Swapan Banerjee, General Secretary Bengal Olympic Association at Netaji Indoor Stadium in its Day-2. Mr. Premjit Sen, President, Karate Do Association of Bengal was also present there to address the media.

The two day long championship was inaugurated in the esteemed presence of Mr. Shihan Bharat Sharma, General Secretary of Karate Association of India; Mr. Premjit Sen, President, Karate Association of Bengal along with other officials from Karate Association of India on 13th January 2018 at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra.

The “Kai Senior National Karate Championship 2018” is a selection round for ASIAN GAMES and Olympics for this year. After 10 years, the city of Joy, Kolkata witnessed a huge number of participants in the championship. The participants pour in from all the corners of India, including C.R.P.F, B.S.F, Indo Tibetan Police Force, Assam Riffles and N.S.G, Services and many Para-military Forces the number counting to 2000.

Karate Association Bengal (KAB) is a nonprofit organization which is recognized member of Bengal Olympic Association and is affiliated to Karate Association of India recognized by Government of India Ministry of Youth & Sports affairs and affiliated to Indian Olympic Association. The organization depends solely upon the talent and efforts of its volunteer corps who are mutually vested in the welfare and future of Karate participants. KAB provides clothes and books to needy people and also organizes Blood Donation Camps Anti Drug Rallies, collect funds for the victims of Natural Calamities. 18 Districts of W.B are associated with KAB in which more than 3.00.000 students are practicing Karate-Do under it.

Results: 

  • Winners – N.S.G, Services with 4 Gold, 3 Bronze medals
  • 2nd – Madhya Pradesh with 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze medals
  • West Bengal bagged a silver medal in female Kata round.
