Mukesh Ambani the most sought after business leader of India made a great opening day speech at Bengal Global Business Summit 2018. He not only demonstrated the depth of his knowledge but also a visionary approach towards business world.

Here is what he said at the event.

Honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,

Distinguished delegates,

Ladies and Gentlemen…

A very warm good morning to all of you.

Every time I come to Kolkata, I see a new Kolkata and a new Bengal.

More vibrant, more dynamic, more beautiful and more optimistic than before.

Bengal has said goodbye to the slow growth rate of the past.

It is now embracing the future with the grace and agility of the Bengal Tiger.

Today, West Bengal is the fourth largest state economy in India, growing at 15.64% GVA

This is much higher than the national average.

Investments in infrastructure have been unprecedented.

A global think-tank ranked Kolkata second among the Indian metros on overall economic performance, even ahead of Mumbai.

Today, the state is famous for the ease of doing business!

A miracle has happened.

And it has happened because there is industrial peace and pace in the state.

Bengal today means business.

Bengal wants good governance and rapid development.

It has adopted a positive mind-set that can make the impossible possible.

Bengal knows that it must prosper…

Not just for its own sake, but for the whole of India.

And this Convention Centre is one example.

Looking at this truly world-class Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, I have only one thing to say…

Didi, under your leadership, West Bengal is becoming Best Bengal!

Biswa Bangla is a testimony to your vision and mission.

Let me congratulate Mamata didi and her committed team of the West Bengal Government for all their achievements.

Dear Friends,

Bengal is not just focused on rapid economic growth.

But is also focused on improving the quality of life of every citizen.

Human development indicators like education and health are also improving in Bengal.

This is because social sector spending in the state has more than trebled.

I salute Bengal’s Women Empowerment Programme, Kanyashree Prakalpa, for bagging the highest UN Award in public service.

The award is proof of Bengal’s inclusive and compassionate development.

And why not!

After all there is mamata – compassion in Didi’s name itself.

Dear Friends,

Reliance shares Bengal’s dream of rapid and inclusive development, under your dynamic leadership.

We are equal partners in transforming your dream into reality.

I had the privilege of attending the Second Biswa Bangla summit in 2016.

At that time we were new to Bengal.

And Reliance committed an investment of Rs 4,500 crore in Bengal.

What Reliance commits, it delivers.

It is in our DNA.

And that is exactly what we have done in Bengal.

In all humility, I would like to say today that we have more than walked the talk.

We have invested not just the committed 4,500 crore but nearly TRIPLE THAT AMOUNT – Rs 15,000 crore in Bengal.

Didi – we could make this large investment only because you have created a friendly climate and an enabling policy infrastructure.

Today, in just two short years, Reliance has emerged as one of the largest investors in Bengal.

Moreover, Bengal is amongst our largest investments in the country.

Our investment philosophy has a clear goal ─ to empower everyone in the march of development, especially those who have been left behind.

Most of our investments are in creating the Jio network.

For Reliance, Jio is not just another business.

It is a mission to transform India ─ to transform Bengal.

Jio will give seamless, high-quality digital connectivity, unmatched anywhere else in the world.

Reliance’s investments have trebled employment opportunities in Bengal in just two years.

Jio initiatives have delivered sustained new employment opportunities ─ both direct and indirect ─ to over 100,000 people in the state.

And I am grateful to the people of West Bengal who have adopted Jio as their own.

They have a special place in our hearts – as we have in their hearts.

It is from this very city, that we formally launched Jio services in 2015 –through the creation of our first Public Wi-Fi Experience Zone in Park Street.

This is the place where we learnt how to deliver services that will delight customers.

Out of a population of 9 crore people, today we have over 1.2 crore loyal Jio customers in Bengal.

We are grateful for their support, love and unstinted support to Jio.

And our aim is to increase this manifold in the coming years.

Dear Friends,

I have a big reason for focusing on digital business.

The world is at the cusp of a digital revolution.

Everything in the world is going digital – music, movies, commerce, banking, cars, homes, healthcare, education – every aspect of life is going digital.

Digital technologies will completely transform every sector of the economy, and every field of life.

The Digital Economy will bring prosperity at more than double the speed of the traditional economy.

Bengal, and the whole of India, must embrace the Digital Revolution and be future-ready.

For our digital lives to be good, our digital ecosystem has to be good.

And that is the promise of Jio.

Jio will make every citizen of Bengal to be a SMARTER CITIZEN.

Our aim is to take the power of Digital Life to every nook and corner of the state, particularly in rural Bengal.

To improve the quality of education and healthcare.

Jio has facilitated the spread of education by connecting over 200 universities and premier institutions across the state.

Jio has enabled healthcare too, covering more than 100 hospitals, including all the major ones in Kolkata and the districts.

To light up the lives of the people.

To provide large number of newer livelihood opportunities.

To empower and enable every citizen by connecting them to each other and the world.

Dear Friends,

I cannot be speaking in Kolkata and not talk about Football.

I would like to congratulate the Honourable Chief Minister for the grand success of hosting the Final of the Under-17 Football World Cup in Kolkata.

The journey of the Indian Super League started, very aptly, from Kolkata in 2014.

It was flagged off by Mamata Didi at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan, Salt Lake.

We would like Bengal to produce the next Messi and the next Ronaldo.

Dear Friends,

I will like to make a few commitments as partners for the growth of Bengal.

Firstly, our current Jio network covers 1,000 towns and nearly 39,000 villages in the state…

Almost 98% of Bengal’s population.

I am happy to announce today that Jio will reach 100% of Bengal’s population before the end of 2018.

Secondly, we are embarking on an ambitious project of connecting Bengal with Optic Fibre.

It will bring superior digital services to every home…

Transform every home in Bengal into a SMART HOME.

And I assure this august gathering that Jio will connect every single educational institution and every single hospital in Bengal within the next two years.

Thirdly, Reliance is also setting up Digital Service Centres across India to bring Government to Citizen (G2C) services within easy reach of every citizen, particularly in the rural hinterland.

I am happy to announce that with the support of the State Government, we will launch this initiative in five districts of Bengal with immediate effect.

It will give birth to digital entrepreneurs in villages and small towns…

Kick-start e-commerce, and support agriculture, as well as small and medium enterprises…

Create employment and wealth-generating opportunities in both Rural and Urban Bengal.

Fourthly we shall be working with multiple partners to explore setting up next generation state-of-the-art electronics manufacturing facilities and make West Bengal the hub for innovation and hi-tech technologies for consumer devices such as mobile phones, set-top boxes, and other devices.

My fifth announcement pertains to JioPhone.

Since launch, the JioPhone has become the center of innovation world-over.

The JioPhone which is available at EFFECTIVELY ZERO COST to the consumer has received a rousing welcome from across West Bengal.

JioPhone is now fully available across West Bengal.

The JioPhone will make everyone embrace the digital ecosystem without any digital divide.

Friends,

Sixthly, Bengal has always been the cradle of super-intelligent people.

The state has produced world-renowned scientists like Dr Satyendra Nath Bose, whose 125th birth anniversary celebrations have begun this year.

The Bose-Einstein collaboration is one of the cornerstones of Quantum Physics.

I announce with great pride that Jio will set up a Chair in the honour of Dr Bose in a prestigious university in Bengal.

Seventhly, we want to empower small retailers with digital tools that help them enjoy the benefits of connecting with their entire chain of suppliers to customers.

These tools will help them do their business more efficiently, grow faster, improve supply chain efficiencies and increase customer satisfaction.

Our state-of-the-art cloud-based POS solution will enable digital billing and payments, loyalty, GST compliance and supplier management.

This will bring efficiencies in the entire ecosystem, comprising of brands, distributors, merchants and consumers.

We will be creating this set of digital tools and roll them out to the small retailers over the next two years.

And my eighth and final announcement, we are committing to invest another Rs. 5,000 crore in Jio and the entire digital eco-system, Retail and Petro-retail in the next few years.

In the last few years, Bengal has showered so much of love and affection for Reliance and Jio.

We will always be reliable partners in Bengal’s growth agenda.

We will be committed in making Bengal, once again, one of the leading states in the country.

We will work with everyone to contribute to making West Bengal truly Best Bengal.

Thank you.

Dhonyobad!

Joy Bangla!

Joy Biswa Bangla.
