KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club on Saturday (22 February, 2020) celebrated the 129th Foundation Day at the Mohammedan Sporting Club tent in the midst of much fanfare.

Mohammedan Sporting Club, one of the oldest and most prestigious football clubs in Asia, was founded originally in 1887 under the leadership of Nawab Aminul Islam as ‘Jubilee Club’. Later it was renamed as ‘Crescent Club’, which was again changed to ‘Hamidia Club’. Finally in 1891, the club was named as the ‘Mohammedan Sporting Club’.

The Occasion began with President Mohammed Amiruddin and General Secretary Mohammed Qamaruddin hosting the Club flag alongside Football Secretary Sharique Ahmed, Cricket Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh, Technical Director Dipendu Biswas, Athletic Secretary Hasnain Ahmed, General Manager Sk. Wasim Akram, Team Manager Belal Khan, East Bengal Official Debabrata Sarkar, Indian Football Association (IFA) General Secretary Joydeep Mukherjee, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Abhishek Dalmiya and Former India international Alvito D’Cunha.

The club also organized a workshop on Awareness on Single Use Plastic Pollution. The aim of the workshop was to create awareness on the disastrous impacts of the increasing amount of plastic bags in the waste on the environment and pursuade people to switch to using paper bags.

The dignitaries did more than raise awareness as they collected plastic bottles, plates and other garbage thrown around the Mohammedan Sporting Club tent to set an example that every single individual has to put in their best effort in keeping their surroundings clean.

Highlighting the theme, Sharique Ahmed briefed about the programmes for preventing the use of single use plastic in maidan area. He called upon the audience to stop using the single use plastic themselves and spread the awareness among the masses.
