Online service – e-raktakosh – to give information about availability of blood in Bengal

Information about supplies of blood in the blood banks of Bengal, be they government or private – how many units of which blood group are available – can now be had online. This service, called e-raktkosh, under the initiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was inaugurated recently.

Currently, Bengal has 67 State Government blood banks, 15 Central Government blood banks and 46 private blood banks. According to information available from the website, as of August 7, there were 10,544 units of blood available in the state.

Recently, as part of its sixth foundation day, the State Government had organised state-wide blood donation camps, as a result of which a large amount of blood has been deposited in the state’s blood banks.
