Pearl Academy Hosts Creative Career Conclave in Kolkata

Industry experts interacted with over 100 students to create awareness about emerging careers in creative fields

Kolkata, 25th April: Pearl Academy, India’s leading institution in design, fashion, creative business and media hosted ‘Creative Career Conclave’, in the city on 24th April to address parents and students about the new age careers and opportunities in fashion and design courses.

The session was attended by over 100 students from schools including Sushila Birla, La Martiniere for Girls, Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Mahadevi Birla World Academy, Goldmsmith to name a few who got there queries answered on careers in design, fashion and other creative fields. A pan India initiative by Pearl Academy, ‘Creative Career Conclave’ will travel to 17 cities across the length and breadth of the country with an aim to create awareness and help students and parents in getting more information on the emerging careers in creative fields.

Fashion Design expert Antonio Maurizio Grioli was also present to interact with the students. Maurizio, an Italian, has been teaching in India for more than 10 years now and is a great proponent of Indian textiles, weaves and handlooms. Other eminent speakers present on the occasion were Paromita Banerjee, leading Indian fashion designer who hails from Kolkata, Shubho Sengupta, renowned Digital Brand Consultant and Ajit Bhandari, a design consultant and academician.

Noted alumni of Pearl Academy Midushi Bajoria, who is also from Calcutta and works at Sabyasachi Mukherjee also came and shared her career journey with the aspiring students.

Later at the Press Meet held today, Prof Nandita Abraham, CEO – Pearl Academy, said “Kolkata is the epicentre of creative talent and we want to ensure that the students get to know about all the new age careers in fashion, design, digital media etc. which are the careers of tomorrow. The digital transformation has changed the career landscape and as educators, we must move ahead of times to ensure that our academic offerings are in line with the industry demands of tomorrow.”

“This Conclave is an endeavour to create awareness by bringing industry experts, parents and students under the same roof and get the queries answered regarding the new age career opportunities. Every creative person creates or finds their own niche and we want to play the role of a catalyst for students to learn and be somebody tomorrow.” she added.

When we asked about the credit transfer between overseas universities and institutions She said that in Australia they alreay have one college for full credit transfer and others is doing on case to case basis.

Dressed in a khadi kurta embellished with Kolkata’s famous zardozi embroidery, Maurizio, the Area Head, School of Fashion & Textiles, Pearl Academy, said – “Kolkata has made an immense contribution to the Indian fashion industry whether it is through its weaves like jamdani or embroidery patterns such as kantha or even when you look at the fashion talent – the best of artisans in embroidery, jewellery designing come from Kolkata. Sabyasachi, Ritu Kumar, Paromita Banerjee have also proved the mettle of Kolkata’s fashion talent. I hope that we get many more young talented designers from Kolkata who will also take this legacy forward.”
