Entrepreneurs, industry leaders shower praises on Bengal

Entrepreneurs, industry leaders shower praises on Bengal

Ever since attending the first Bengal Global Business Summits a few years back, entrepreneurs and leaders of industry have showered praises on Bengal and its and its industrial climate. They have reacted with a lot of positivity to the Bengal Government’s attitude and have highly appreciated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s honest efforts to bring industry back to the state. They have enthusiastically participated in the Bengal Global Business Summits.

Here are a few samples of comments after the successful 2017 summit (held in January):

It (Bengal) is an incredible success story. (Lord Davies of Abersoch, Chair, UK India Business Council)

This Summit is an excellent platform to not just showcase Bengal’s potential but to understand the vast opportunities that lie in the region as well. I’ve been struck by the many similarities between Bengal’s vision for its eco-system and Bhutan’s vision of development that is guided by its philosophy of Gross National Happiness. (His Excellency Tshering Tobgay, the Honourable Prime Minister of Bhutan)

It (Bengal Global Business Summit) is a platform to bring together all of us who have a stake in the development of the state. The platform is to build a true partnership to serve all the people of Bengal. Bengal has achieved significant all-round economic and social progress and has focussed on improving the quality of life of over 90 million citizens. (Mukesh Ambani, CMD, Reliance Industries Ltd.)

Bengal is a very attractive market with skilled manpower – the reform process is led with a great degree of vision. (YC Deveshwar, Chairman, ITC Ltd.)

The last six years have seen a sea-change, the leadership has been dynamic and decisive and the government machinery has been completely professional; they are quick to respond. (Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group)

Bengal is our ‘karmabhoomi’. It is the love and affection of the people of Bengal, and the encouragement of the government which have helped us to grow and prosper in the state. In Bengal we have found a very sensitive and supportive government. (Kishore Biyani, MD, Future Group)

I feel optimistic that Bengal will play a part in the resurgence of the Indian economy. (Harshvardhan Neotia
Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group)

The Bengal Global Business Summit has evolved as an annual flagship event for the State Government for showcasing Bengal’s potential and inviting investment proposals. Apart from highlighting all the achievements, the State Government should also utilise this platform to initiate a regular dialogue with the business community in order to improve the ‘ease of doing business’ in the state so that a cadre of empowered entrepreneurs can be groomed for the future, which can guarantee job creation. (Sunil Kanoria, Vice-Chairman, Srei Infrastructure Finance Ltd.)

We have a large presence in Bengal and the total investment in the state is about Rs 20,000 crore. We have been in this state for a number of years and we continue to invest in this state. (Bikram Dasgupta
Founder and Executive Chairman, Globsyn Group)

Bengal Global Business Summit 2015 was a milestone event which gathered a very positive response from the investors and we are looking forward to the next Summit to carry this momentum forward. (Gaurav Swarup, Chairman, FICCI West Bengal State Council and MD, Paharpur Cooling Towers)

Bengal’s economy has impressively withstood the continuing slowdown in economic growth in previous years and currently is on a high-growth trajectory. We want to grow in Bengal to create a market-enduring goodwill by benefitting both our buyers and investors. The current boost in industrialisation in the state has prompted us to replicate our success of Rajgangpur and Cuttack, in Salboni. We plan to scale up our presence in the Bengal market by completing the first phase of investment in the plant. Our high-capacity plant located strategically will ensure timely and faster delivery of cement across the state, a significant emerging market for infrastructure development and thereby, the cement industry. (Puneet Dalmia, MD, Dalmia Bharat and Group Director, OCL India Ltd.)

Bengal really offers tremendous opportunities in manufacturing – we have an abundance of natural resources, skilled manpower and advantages of location. (Sumit Mazumder, CMD, TIL Ltd.)

We are in this state for the last 12 years and have invested around Rs 1,600 crore. Looking at the ease of doing business here, both the political and administrative systems are extremely quick to resolve issues. (YK Modi, Executive Chairman, Great Eastern Energy Corporation Ltd.)

I am confident that the Bengal Global Business Summit will presage a new era of entrepreneurship and development in West Bengal. The overall spirit is positive and I am optimistic. (Viresh Oberoi, Former CEO and MD, Mjunction Services Ltd.)

The dynamic Chief Minister supported by her extremely able team has brought a transformational change in the state which is attracting investors like never before. (Dr Jyotsna Suri, CMD, Bharat Hotels Ltd.)

In the context to competitive agility, I want to talk about why Bengal matters today. Three major reasons why Bengal matters the most in location decisions – speed (that means distance and logistics), competitive access to talent and support of government machineries. (Dr Purnendu Chatterjee, Founder and Chairman, The Chatterjee Group)

It was a landmark event. We have signed some major investment proposals, including the MRTS hub. It will add to the rejuvenation of manufacturing in Bengal. This will also bring additional foreign direct investment in the state that we already got through the airport. (Partho Ghosh, MD, Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd.)

It was a splendid effort by the state and my compliments to the Chief Minister and her team. This has sent a very positive message to the world and has also shown that the Indian leaders are giving priority to economic development over political ideologies. (Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and MD, Titagarh Wagons Ltd.)
