Santoor Maestro, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya & Tabla Virtuoso, Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee Presents A New Raga ‘GANGA’ – Their Performance Mesmerises The City Audience

 

Kolkata, 19th June, 2018: Ministry of Culture, Government of India & Indian Council for Cultural Relations presented a spectacular musical concert ‘GANGA’ featuring Santoor Maestro, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya and GIMA Award Winner, Tabla Exponent, Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee. They performed a new Raga, Ganga, created by created by Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya.

 

“Ganga is a new raga, which is created with a blend of raga ‘Yogeswari’ and raga ‘Kalabati’. This is our salutation to The Ganges River and an appeal to all Indians that people should get in the act of cleaning the river and spreading the awareness for the same. The idea of creating this came to me after our honourable PM Narendra Modi introduced ‘Clean Ganga Project’. The audience reaction is indeed overwhelming”, said Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee.

 

Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee’s solo performance, saat sangat, sawal jawab mesmerised the audience. His skills in rhythmic expression through Tabla surprised the audience. The ‘Jugalbandi’ between Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee and maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya was immensely appreciated by the Kolkata audience.

 

The Raga, Ganga, was created to pay a tribute to the majestic and sacred river, Ganga. Rhythm and Sound Design has been done by GIMA Award Winner, Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee.

 

The first concert of this series had happened in Varanasi on 10th June, 2018 at the famous Assi Ghat, followed by the second concert in Kolkata today.

Prodyut formed a fusion band Rhythm express which presents an eclectic mix of Indo occidental musical notes with afro and latin elements in their performances.
