Indian Army Celebrates 62nd Anniversary of Walong Day at War Memorial

Walong, 14 November The month-long commemoration of 62nd Walong Day reached its pinnacle as Spear Corps of Indian Army paid heartfelt tribute to the War Veterans and Next of Kins (NoKs) of the Walong Heroes. The mega event held at the historic Walong War Memorial, was a befitting tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of our gallant soldiers who fought for the nation’s sovereignty with unmatched valour and resilience.

The Honourable Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen K T Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retd) and Lt Gen A S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, GOC, Spear Corps graced the occasion and laid wreaths at the War Memorial honouring the supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers in the 1962 War. The renovated Walong War Memorial was also inaugurated on the auspucious occasion and opened for public.

Indian Army, invited the War veterans and the Next of Kin (NoK) of the Walong Heroes to the grand ceremony, in recognition of the courage and sacrifice of them and their loved ones who served the nation with honour.

The two day long closing ceremony was marked by sterling performances by a Symphony band and a captivating Light & Sound Show. Wreath laying was done by all veterans & NoKs which was followed by traditional performance by armed forces personnel. These displays vividly portrayed the heroism of our bravehearts and evoked immense patriotic fervour among all attendees.
Adding to the patriotic spirit, two new song compositions were sung and then ceremoniously released.

The month long commemoration included cycling expedition from Namsai to Namti, White Water Rafting in Lohit river, battlefield treks to actual battle locations in Walong Sector, motorcycle expedition from Mipi to Meshai and medical camps for locals in Walong, Kibithu & Anini. The events underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to boost development in the frontier villages and promoting border tourism in Arunachal Pradesh. Through this commemoration Indian Army reiterated its dedication to both national security and local engagement, showcasing its active role in nation-building across India’s border regions.
