A Historic Cultural Evening at Golpark Ramakrishna Mission
World’s First International Form of Bengali “Mahisasuramardini” to be Showcased
Kolkata: In a landmark moment for Bengal’s cultural heritage, the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, will host a prestigious cultural program on 23rd September 2025 at 6:00 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the World’s First International Form of Bengali “Mahisasuramardini,” a groundbreaking creation by Supriyo Sengupta, popularly known as Karigori Kobiyal.
For generations, “Mahisasuramardini,” the iconic dawn radio program first broadcast by All India Radio in 1931, has been an inseparable part of Bengal’s Durga Puja tradition. Its blend of devotional songs, scriptural chants, and narration by Birendra Krishna Bhadra remains etched in the hearts of millions.
Carrying forward this timeless legacy, Supriyo Sengupta has pioneered the International Form of “Mahisasuramardini”—preserving its original lyrics, meaning, and tune while presenting it in a way that reaches a global audience. This innovative interpretation bridges cultures, ensuring that the soul of Bengal’s heritage resonates internationally without losing its authenticity.
The Ramakrishna Mission’s invitation to showcase this work marks a moment of pride not only for the creator but also for Bengal’s cultural identity. The program promises to be a historic evening, uniting tradition with modern vision.
Speaking about his creation, Supriyo Sengupta said:
“This is not just a project—it is a heartfelt tribute to my late mother, who inspired me to dedicate my work to society. My vision is to make Bengal’s spiritual and cultural richness accessible to the world while keeping its essence intact.”
The evening at Golpark Ramakrishna Mission will include the formal presentation of this international form along with other cultural offerings, attended by scholars, devotees, and cultural enthusiasts.
With this event, Kolkata once again becomes the epicenter of cultural history in the making, where tradition and innovation merge to create a timeless legacy.
