
State-Level Disaster Preparedness Exercises in Arunachal Pradesh – A Strong Display of Readiness and Coordination

The Ball of Fire Division of Gajraj Corps, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the State Government and local agencies, conducted state-level disaster preparedness exercises in the high-altitude regions of Arunachal Pradesh. The drills highlighted the joint strength, determination and preparedness of both military and civil agencies to respond effectively to natural calamities.
The exercises began with a Table Top Exercise in Tawang, focusing on early warning systems, safe evacuation, medical aid, relief distribution and civil-military coordination. Representatives from multiple agencies engaged in scenario-based discussions, exploring challenges and devising practical strategies for disaster management in the Himalayan terrain, which is prone to earthquakes, landslides and flash floods.
This was followed by Mock Drills at Tawang and Pakke Kesang, where real-life disaster situations were simulated. Military troops and civil agencies jointly tested rapid response, emergency communication, first aid, resource mobilisation and rehabilitation measures, showcasing high levels of coordination and readiness.
The exercises reinforced the importance of timely response, joint planning and community awareness. This initiative not only enhanced disaster preparedness but also deepened civil-military cooperation, ensuring stronger protection of lives and livelihoods for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
