University of Liverpool and IIT Delhi Sign MoU to Strengthen India-UK Research Collaboration
Partnership to create new avenues for faculty collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint research
New Delhi, March 19, 2026: The University of Liverpool campus and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing the two institutions to exploring academic collaboration and strengthening research partnerships across priority technology and engineering domains.
The MoU was signed by Professor Tariq Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Partnerships at the University of Liverpool, and Professor Anil Verma, Dean of International Relations at IIT Delhi. It establishes a framework for global research collaboration between the two institutions, focused on high-impact priority areas such as quantum technologies, biomedical devices and diagnostics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The collaboration followed a faculty delegation visit by the University of Liverpool to IIT Delhi, during which a focused half-day session brought together faculty from IIT Delhi’s Department of Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences, and the Centre for Biomedical Engineering, laying the groundwork for meaningful academic and research partnerships.
Speaking on the collaboration, Professor Tariq Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Partnerships at the University of Liverpool, said, “Our Partnership with IIT Delhi represents an exciting opportunity to bring together the strengths of two research-intensive institutions committed to advancing knowledge and innovation. IIT Delhi has a fantastic global reputation in science, engineering and innovation and we are delighted to have established a joint seed fund to catalyse new initiatives. We will explore new frontiers in areas such as quantum technologies, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence. I am confident that by working together we will not only advance scientific discovery but also contribute to addressing some of the most pressing technological and societal challenges facing the world today.”

Through this agreement, both institutions will jointly identify opportunities to leverage their complementary research strengths, catalysing new research and innovation projects while further strengthening India–UK academic collaboration.
The partnership is expected to create a platform for sustained academic engagement and collaborative research initiatives between faculty and research teams from both institutions.
