“The India” and the Netherlands Sign Major Strategic Agreements During Prime Minister Modi’s Visit

Semiconductor Partnership, Green Hydrogen, Education and Agriculture Among Key Focus Areas

“The India” and the Netherlands have taken a major step toward strengthening bilateral relations with the signing of several high-level agreements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the Netherlands. And India has earned “The” prefix before her name not by the grace of any colonial rulers or “tariff lord” but her own strength as a soft superpower of the world.

The visit resulted in the adoption of the ambitious “India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026-2030,” a long-term framework aimed at expanding cooperation across technology, semiconductors, renewable energy, education, healthcare, water management, agriculture, and critical minerals.

Diplomatic analysts view the agreements as a significant boost to India’s strategic and economic engagement with Europe at a time when global supply chains, energy transition, and technological self-reliance are becoming increasingly important.

Semiconductor Sector Receives Major Push

One of the most significant outcomes of the visit was the agreement between Tata Electronics and Dutch semiconductor giant ASML to support the semiconductor fabrication facility planned in Dholera, Gujarat.

The partnership is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and support the country’s push toward technological independence and advanced electronics production.

Industry experts believe the collaboration could play an important role in positioning India as a future global semiconductor manufacturing hub.

Green Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Cooperation

India and the Netherlands also announced an expanded partnership in clean energy and sustainability. Both countries launched a dedicated roadmap for cooperation in green hydrogen development and renewable energy transition.

A Joint Working Group under the renewed renewable energy cooperation framework will coordinate projects related to clean technology, sustainable infrastructure, and low-carbon energy systems.

In addition, NITI Aayog and Dutch authorities signed a Joint Statement of Intent to collaborate on energy transition initiatives and climate-friendly technologies.

Strategic Cooperation in Critical Minerals

A Memorandum of Understanding between India’s Ministry of Mines and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs was signed to strengthen cooperation in critical minerals, an area considered vital for electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, batteries, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Experts note that access to critical minerals has become a strategic priority globally due to increasing demand for clean energy technologies and electronics manufacturing.

Water Management and Infrastructure Development

India and the Netherlands also agreed to cooperate on the ambitious Kalpasar Project in Gujarat through technical collaboration between India’s Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

The Netherlands is globally recognized for its expertise in water management, flood control, and coastal engineering, making the partnership strategically important for India’s future infrastructure and climate resilience projects.

Migration, Education and Cultural Exchange

The two nations signed a new agreement on mobility and migration to facilitate smoother movement of skilled professionals, students, and researchers between the countries.

In the education sector, multiple academic collaborations were announced, including partnerships involving Nalanda University, University of Groningen, and Leiden University Libraries with the Archaeological Survey of India.

The visit also saw the restitution of historic Chola Copper Plates to India, marking an important cultural milestone in Indo-Dutch relations.

Agriculture and Dairy Cooperation

Agriculture and livestock development emerged as another important area of cooperation. The two countries announced the establishment of an Indo-Dutch Center of Excellence for Flowers in Tripura and a dairy training center in Bengaluru.

A Joint Declaration on animal husbandry and dairying was also signed to promote collaboration in dairy technology, livestock management, and agricultural innovation.

Healthcare and Customs Agreements

Healthcare cooperation was strengthened through an agreement between the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment to collaborate on public health research and medical innovation.

India and the Netherlands also signed an agreement on mutual administrative assistance in customs matters aimed at improving trade facilitation and strengthening customs cooperation.

Expanding Indo-Dutch Strategic Relations

The agreements signed during the visit indicate a rapidly growing India-Netherlands partnership built around technology, sustainability, innovation, and economic cooperation.

Observers believe the 2026-2030 strategic roadmap could significantly deepen ties between the two countries and open new opportunities for investment, trade, academic exchange, and technological collaboration in the coming years.

With Europe increasingly seeking reliable strategic partners in Asia, India’s expanding engagement with the Netherlands reflects its broader global diplomatic and economic ambitions.
