Kolkata the Cultural Capital of India; yes once again it has been proved by the Satabdi Acharyya Production presentation of Dance drama called “Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya”.
An evening well spent by the audience shocked in to deep heart felt resonance of the performance. Three months spent to prepare the whole concept and when it delivered with devotion at her best no one can point fingers at such stage performance.
The ACE dancer and teacher Satabdi Acharyya demonstrated onstage what is performing art and how to mesmerize the people.
How ever at point of times the coordination and expression of some co-performers were not at sync with rest of the team. Even some were tensed and looked for others to remember the forgotten steps. But those are so negligible and easily can be over looked by the commoners.
Conceived and based on the Upanishads and the writings of Rabindranath Tagore on the importance of the journey from darkness to light, as well as the works of great composers like Hemanga Biswas and Salil Chowdhury, this Satabdi Acharyya production with feature dancers, singers and musicians from Mitrayan, Bikramshila and Gaudiya Nritya Bharati of Kolkata. The dance style includes Gaudiya Nritya, with a touch of Kuchipudi, Kathak, folk dance forms of Bengal and Japan, and some contemporary styles as well.
Gaudiya Nritya (Bengali: গৌড় নৃত্য) or Gauriya Nritya, is a Bengali classical dance tradition. It originates from Gauda, also known as Gaur, in Bengal.
It has been reconstructed by Mahua Mukherjee. It is not recognized as an Indian classical dance by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, but study of it is eligible for scholarships from the Ministry of Culture of India.
Scholarly reception of the reconstruction ranges from caution to scepticism.
Influence of Fusion like Japan and other Far East Dance forms reminds that of Udayshankar the legend.
