The Indian Union Budget 2023, presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, focused on increasing infrastructure spending, boosting digital adoption, and promoting domestic production.

The government announced a plan to invest Rs. 15.69 lakh crore in infrastructure over the next five years, including Rs. 1.97 lakh crore for roads and highways, and Rs. 1.07 lakh crore for the railways. Additionally, Rs. 1.53 lakh crore has been allocated for urban development and housing, with an emphasis on providing affordable housing.

To promote digital adoption and financial inclusion, the government plans to launch a new digital platform for small businesses, which will help them access credit, market, and technology. The budget also introduced a new policy aimed at boosting domestic production and reducing the country’s dependence on imports.

The Union Budget 2023, has fulfilled its promise of being a people’s budget by prioritising the needs of citizens. The boost in capital expenditure and increase in personal income tax slabs will provide a much-needed fillip to the economy and encourage consumer spending. The focus on rural development and job creation bodes well for the overall development of the country. The budget strikes a good balance between growth and equity and sets the tone for a prosperous future for India, said Mr. Manick Wadhwa, Director of Strategy at SKI Capital Services Ltd.

The government has allocated Rs. 2.23 lakh crore for the agriculture sector, including Rs. 1,000 crores for a new scheme to promote the use of micro-irrigation and improve water-use efficiency. The budget also includes measures to support the development of the fishery and aquaculture sector, with an allocation of Rs. 1,000 crores for the same.

“Big boost for agri sector by allocating 20 lakh crores for the sector is a welcome step and need of the hour. We desperately need revamping agri infra,” said Mr. Narinder Wadhwa, President-CPAI.

In the education sector, the government announced a new national education policy, aimed at revamping the country’s education system and making it more student-centric. The budget also includes an allocation of Rs. 5,000 crores for the establishment of new higher education institutions.

Financial literacy is the most talked about subject, especially when we are a young country. Education and skill are a crucial part of the development of society and attracting capital. The budget has the right focus on education and skill development, said Kamlesh Shah, President ANMI.

India is changing and so is youth. Education is now an integral part of the budget. It is beginning and we shall make our people powerful with having right skills for right career advancement, Mr. Shah added.

In conclusion, the Indian Union Budget 2023 focuses on increasing infrastructure spending, promoting digital adoption and domestic production, and supporting the agriculture and education sectors. The government’s emphasis on infrastructure development and digitalization is expected to drive economic growth and create job opportunities in the country.
