Jangalmahal Utsav to begin today
The annual Jangalmahal Utsav will kick off today. It will be inaugurated in Jhargram. The week-long festival will continue till January 10. Though the festival has always been held in Jhargram, this is the first time that it will be held there after Jhargram became a separate district.
It is being organised by the Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs Department, and will be held at the ground of Kumudkumari Institution.
After coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has undertaken a series of efforts, including region-specific developmental schemes, for comprehensive development of Jangalmahal. These efforts have helped to bring the people of the region out of the darkness into which they had been flung due to the activities of Maoist insurgents.
One such effort is the Jangalmahal Utsav. This festival, begun in 2014, has come to signify a time for bonding among the people of the region. With more and more tourists attending the festival, it has also come to be a time of bonding with people across Bengal.
The festival this time will have 42 stalls, and five pavilions for various State Government departments to showcase their achievements. At the Karigari Hub, around 100 to 150 artisans will be exhibiting their products.
There will be cultural shows every day where well-known artistes as well as local performers will entertain visitors. The successful budding artists from the cultural competitions that are organised from the block to the district levels will be performing.
