Theresa May takes congratulatory phone calls tonight from Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande and Enda Kenny.
May was officially sworn in this afternoon as Britain’s new Prime Minister following an audience with the Queen.
She is Britain’s second female premier and is following in the footsteps of fellow Tory Margaret Thatcher.
Speaking from Downing Street, the new leader promised to create a ‘country that works for everyone’.
Mrs May is announcing the most senior appointments to her Cabinet tonight and other jobs later in the week.
Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has been appointed Chancellor, with George Osborne leaving government .
