Transport minister wants department to cut costs

The transport department is now pondering how to prevent additional expenditure in administrative management in its different offices. State transport minister Suvendu Adhikari wants cost-cutting measures in the transport department offices across the state.

During a meeting with officials of the transport department last week the minister directed them to prepare a report how to take measures to reduce the expenditure relating to the administrative management. . The directive however does not mean to terminate any serving employee of the department as well undertakings.

As a first step, the government has already brought three premier transport corporations — Calcutta State Transport Corporation (CSTC), Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC) and West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation (WBSTC) — under one roof.

The minister has also asked officials to generate more revenue using resources such as vacant land lying in different depots under the transport undertakings in the city.
