Disha Eye Hospitals Confers The 1st Disha Samman 2018 To Visually Challenged AchieversKolkata, 8th October, 2018:

 Disha Eye Hospitals, the largest state-of-the-art-eye hospital of Eastern India, has introduced Disha Samman from this year to acknowledge the achievements of visually challenged people and also the organisations which works towards the benefit of these people.

Today, on the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya, the 1st Disha Samman 2018 were conferred to Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys’ Academy, Narendrapur, Mr Chinmoy Mondal, East Zone Secretary, Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Ms Rashmi Maruvada, a visually impaired student of Apeejay School, Park Street.

The ‘Samman’ was handed over to them by Thespian, Mr Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Mr Sambaran Banerjee, Former Cricketer and Ms Agnimitra Paul, Fashion Designer in the presence of Dr Debashish Bhattacharya, Chairman & Managing Director, Disha Eye Hospitals.

“The objective of the ‘Samman’ is to identify fully or partly visually challenged individuals who have been able to overcome their apparent difficulties to become successful in life. The award would also recognize the contribution of organisations and NGOs who have done commendable work with the visually challenged. Through this Samman we also want to encourage the so called ‘differentially abled individuals’ to come forward and lead a normal life,” said Dr Debashish Bhattacharya, Chairman & Managing Director, Disha Eye Hospitals.

The Disha Samman consisted of a Plaque and a cash prize of Rs 50,000/-.

Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys’ Academy, Narendrapur, was conferred this Samman for exemplary work for the visually challenged. The Samman was received by Swami Sarvapremanada Ji Maharaj, Monk–in-Charge and Mr Biswajit Ghosh, Principal, Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys’ Academy, Narendrapur. Mr Chinmoy Mondal, East Zone Secretary, Cricket Association for the Blind in India and an International Cricket Umpire was recognized for his contribution in Sports. Ms Rashmi Maruvada, a visually impaired student of Apeejay School – Park Street, who had passed the Class XII CBSE Board examination in arts with an aggregate of more than 85% marks was handed over the ‘Samman’ for excellence in academics.
