Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah conducts an Interactive Session on effectiveness of speech and swallowing rehabilitation for Laryngectomy Cancer Patients at the Inaugural session of the Laryngectomee Club on 27th July-World Head & Neck Cancer Day
Kolkata, 27th July 2019: Commemorating ”World Head & Neck Cancer Day’, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrahorganized an Interactive Session on “The effectiveness of speech and swallowing rehabilitation for Laryngectomy Cancer Patients” at NSH Conference Hall today.The session witnessed the presence of Team Head & Neck Surgery, NSH, Howrah andMr. Subhasis Bhattacharya, Facility Director, NSH, Howrah along with members of the recently formed Laryngectomee Club, who had their Inaugural Session today. The initiative has been introduced to help the Laryngectomy cancer patients regain their voice and return to their normal lives.
Patients with Laryngeal Cancer face multiple difficulties and its treatment frequently cause changes in both speech and swallowing, adversely impacting the patient’s quality of life and ability to function in society. Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah has taken a step forward by providing these patients with an interactive platform – the laryngectomee club, where survivors come together to form a self -help group for post laryngectomy voice rehabilitation. In addition, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah has also introduced a Speech & Swallow Clinic, run by an expert team comprising of a clinician and therapist focused at providing physical therapy to all Head Neck Cancer patients undergoing surgery or chemoradiation.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Subhasis Bhattacharya, Facility Director, Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, said, “It is a misconception that cancers are incurable. Many patients are cured and more could be cured if their cancers were detected early and treated promptly. No matter how complex a problem is, you should always find the simplest solution.
