Swara Samrat Festival is the biggest festival of Indian Classical Music and Dance in East India, and one of the biggest in the world. It is dedicated to Swara Samrat Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. This festival is the brainchild of Sarode maestro Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar(who was a disciple of the Swara Samrat), his vocalist wife, Manasi Majumder and their son, Sarode Player, Indrayuddh Majumder. SSF is organized by Shreeranjani Foundation Trust, headed by the Sarod Maestro and his family.
Almost all then legends and maestros of Indian Classical Music have performed in SSF in the last 7 seasons – either once or more, namely, Ustad Zakir Hussain (He has performed for 7 consecutive times and will also perform the 8th time), Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Aashish Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and others.
The eighth season of Swara Samrat Festival is a 4 day Mega festival of Indian Classical Music and Dance. SSF Alaap (Which was introduced to the schedule since the last year), will be held on 1st Dec 2019, at Uttam Manch. On 7th and 8th Dec 2019, some of the greatest legends and maestros will be featured at Nazrul Manch. The finale of this season will be a celebration of Sitar Legend, Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar on 13th Feb 2020 at Nazrul Manch.
The event will be held on Nazrul Manch and Uttam Manch on the 1st of December, 7th of December, 8th of December, 13th of February.
