India is suffering from a deadly disease named Covid 19 also called corona virus which has taken more than 1 lakh lives in India. The virus has been a great leveler, affecting people irrespective of their wealth and social status. But the best part is during this outbreak of this pandemic India shows positivity. Almost everyday we can find videos on cooking, singing, dancing and doing other extracurricular activities in the social media and it makes me proud to see the unity of India and how all the citizens are standing by each other emotionally, socially. Economically.
Thus amidst this lock down Pt. Prosenjit Poddar, a renowned personality in the arena of Tabla is not only a great performer but also a great coordinator who has significantly flourished in his excellence in several notable festivals. He is the founder of Hindustan Art & Music Society was established in the year 2010, is an international board of examination for Indian Art & Culture, established by the great maestros of Indian Music in the world, with a view to popularize and teach Indian Classical music amongst the masses in India The basic object of the society has always been to revive the prestige of the art of music comprising vocal music, instrumental music, dance and to organize systematic training in this art in India and also in foreign countries,
1)So as we know you strongly work for Under privileged people and you are attached with social works as well, so any social work you have done for the needy people ?
A) it really hurts to see that some part of our society was enjoying this lockdown by cooking delicious food posting videos on cooking singing dancing in social media basically showing lavishness of their life whereas some part of our society were not getting food, family is unemployed due to lockdown and many other things, thus a small initiative was taken from our side to help them.
On 26th April 2020 we have distributed 500 kit to the needy families , On 27th April 2020 we have distributed breakfast to 250 frontline warriors working for the society On 1st May 2020 we have distributed in our office compound & On 3rd 2020May we have distributed at shitalal kishore sangha groundThat smile after they collected their kit says it all may be we could never understand the situation they were going through. We could help only a few people who are still suffering across the whole world.
2)So there are many teachers or gurus who have set up their school in many remote parts of india for teaching music ,art and dancing, who earns their livelihood and runs their families through teaching what you think about them or any suggestion to them?
A)Definitely ,as our name suggests Hindustan Art & Music Society thus we are always there to support anyone who are willing to grow culturally thus we made a plan to grant in aid for artists and teachers of Indian Art and culture i.e as we know India has rich resources of talented singer and dancer. We have financially assisted the first 200 such artists/teachers and gurus who are in need of assistance(without disclosing their identity).And I will suggest they never lose hope if there is a will there’s a way
5)What is the Impact of Covid-19 pandemic on arts and cultural heritage?
A)This pandemic not only had an impact to the arts and cultural heritage but also to every field The global health crisis and the uncertainty resulting from it profoundly affected organizations’ operations as well as individuals – both employed and independent – across the sector. Arts and culture sector organizations attempted to uphold their (often publicly funded) mission to provide access to cultural heritage to the community; maintain the safety of their employees, collections, and the public; while reacting to the unexpected change in their business model with an unknown end. Till the situation gets restored and everything gets healed no public functions to be held keeping in my mind the social distancing .One positive side is that we can see people are brushing their cultural side during the lockdown and posting it on social media .So it’s good to see that people are giving importance on the arts and cultural side.Hindustan Art and Music Society has announced on May 15 to give the financial support to 200 artist and till June 30 ,We have given Rs 1500 per artist to 200 artist
6) Lastly any suggestion for this pandemic to the people across the world?
A) I will ask people to avoid crowds and maintain social distance sanitization all the time is must after all our safety is in our hands.
