Rotary International President Meets Brazil’s acting President & Vice President Hamilton Mourao
Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta, from Kolkata recently met with the acting President of Brazil, the Vice President Hamilton Mourao. Mehta said, “We had an excellent meeting, he is an outstanding personality, he talked eloquently about Rotary’s humanitarian efforts. I was happy to apprise him about Rotary today and its major initiatives.”
Shekhar Mehta is the current International head of Rotary and the organization has a very strong presence in Brazil and other South American countries. Recently Rotary clubs in Brazil mobilized to help stave off a potential polio outbreak after dangerously low vaccination rates were reported by health officials last year. More than 11 million Brazilian children were inoculated during a massive two-month vaccination campaign, reversing a trend of plummeting immunization coverage.
Mehta assured Acting President Mourao Rotary’s support towards developmental work in Brazil and the organization’s cooperation in helping the country’s educational and health infrastructure post pandemic situation.
