Mentally unsound Bangladeshi citizen apprehended by BSF, handed over to BGB on the basis of humanity and goodwill

On 03 May 2022, at around 2140 hrs, vigilant troops of Border Out Post Kistopur, 44 BN BSF apprehended a Bangladeshi national who had entered the Indian territory during the darkness of night. That Bangladeshi national had left home on May 02, 2022 with a bicycle and entered the Indian territory last night. The detained person has been identified as Mohammad Minarul Islam (age 35 years), S/o- Khaleel Rahman, Village- Naya Namaz Pada, Police Station- Shibganj, District- Bogra (Bangladesh).

In a statement issued by the BSF, it was told that while crossing the International Boundary, the Bangladeshi national was caught by the alert BSF personnel on duty. On enquiry, it was found that his mental condition was not normal, due to which he had unknowingly entered the Indian territory. Later on, he was handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh on the basis of humanitarian and goodwill.

Harvinder Singh Bedi, the Commanding Officer of 44 BN BSF, said that the Border Security Force remains vigilant day and night to prevent infiltration along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Keeping in view the mental state of the apprehended person, BSF deals with such cases very sensitively, treating the illness of the victims, wearing them in clean clothes and handing them back to their families. The apprehended victim is handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh due to the mutual cooperation and goodwill of the Border Guarding Forces of both the countries.
