Pandit Debojyoti Bose has been recognised with the highest citizen honour by the West Bengal State Government
Pandit Debojyoti bose received the highest state honour Banga Bibhushan for his outstanding contribution to the Music Industry as a Hindustani Classical Music Maestro and composer recently. He is probably the only musician from Kolkata to visit more than 10 countries as the Indian cultural ambassador through ICCR. He has worked as a composer for over 10 films, including the films of the national award-winning director- Shekar Das. Besides music, he has directed over 550 Non-Fiction Episodes for Television. An internationally acclaimed artist mentions his gratitude towards Smt. Mamata Banerjee and her love for Art and Artists. His philanthropic activities started way back in the 1990s with his organisation Bose Foundation which he pursued himself and with his own funds until 2022, when he joined the All India Trinamool Congress as an active Full-time politician activist to scale up his activities of social work. He has recently been appointed as one of the States General secretaries of All India Trinamool Congress for his efforts and noble motivations.
When asked about politics, he satirically says, “I see more politics in Indian Classical Music Industry than the mainstream social-political scene. He says, his interest in politics is nil and it is only with the motive of working for the people that he has joined the party. He considers his life as a service to the people of his country, whether he entertains them with music or does mainstream philanthropy. He has been promised and provided a level of convenience and support by the honourable chief minister; hence, he has joined the party and will always be grateful to her. He feels proud and surprised to be the only Hindustani classical musician to join politics in the history of the mentioned.
In speaking about his upcoming works, he reveals that he has been working on several singles with renowned artists of Bengal, which will release prior to the Durga Puja. His comeback as a sarod player from his sabbatical has been graciously accepted by the industry for which he feels deeply obliged and is looking forward to the concerts in the upcoming season. As the official convenor of the State Music Academy, there are several plans to take the academy and its funds to the rural areas of Bengal to promote music and search for new talents. Post pandemic, activities of the Bose Foundation were quite compromised, which we plan to revive and start with new ventures in the upcoming year.
