Alumni Association of APC Ray Polytechnic celebrates 162nd Birth Anniversary of eminent scientist Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray
Kolkata, 2nd August 2023: Following its annual tradition, the Alumni Association of Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray Polytechnic, Jadavpur, Kolkata in collaboration with the Management & Students, organized the celebration of the 162nd Birth Anniversary and Memorial Lecture of eminent Bengali Scientist, Industrialist and Visionary Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray, after whom the college has been named. The event started with paying homage by garlanding the statue of APC Ray at the campus.
This year an academic symposium was organized on the occasion, titled “Vision of Acharyya Prafulla Chandra Ray; as a Scientist, Industrialist and Revolutionary”. Prof. (Dr.) Asutosh Ghosh, Former Vice Chancellor of University of Calcutta and Senior Professor of Chemistry, was the Chief Guest at the occasion and he delivered the “APC Ray Memorial Lecture”. Prof. (Dr.) Arupratan Bandopadhyay, Former HoD and Senior Professor of Department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta was one of the Guests of Honor. Shri. Biplab Dasgupta, Assistant General Manager- Marketing and HoD- HR & Admin of Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (an organization established by APC Ray himself) was also present as Guest of Honor. Both delivered speeches at the occasion, on the various aspects of the multi-dimensional life and work of APC Ray.
Working President of the Alumni Association, Shri. Prasun Kanti Bhattacharya presided over the symposium and highlighted the values and principles of this great 73-year-old Engineering Institution and how it is always guided by the rich values of APC Ray. Shri Mrinmay Kanjilal, current Principal in Charge of the Institute spoke about the symposium and similar curricular and extracurricular activities that the students and teachers regularly engage in, which ensure overall development of students. Senior alumnus and Convener of the symposium Shri. Debajyoti Majumder, delivered the keynote address, highlighting various incidents and happenings of the eventful life and times of APC Ray. Prof. Banibrata Chakraborty, in his speech highlighted the relevance of the research, teachings and life lessons learnt from APC Ray, which is a guiding beacon for students and society of present day.
The toppers of the Institution, from all the six disciplines of engineering for the year 2022, were awarded the APC Ray Memorial Medal and Certificate, by the Alumni Association. Shri. Ashutosh Chakraborty, Former Principal of the college & Chief Patron of the Alumni Association, Shri. Kanchan Chakraborty, Chief Advisor, Shri. Satyabrata Dasgupta, Senior Advisor, were also present. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from many alumni members who are well established in their respective fields, industry representatives, current students, teachers, and staff members. DataSpace Academy (DataSpace Security) were the Academic partners to the event. Shri. Bibhas Jana, secretary of the Alumni Association, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
